How to Add Startup Item in Mac?

Apps on the Dock
- If the app is already available on dock then simply right click on the app.
- Go to “Options” and check the option “Open at Login”.
- That’s it!!! You have added an app to the startup login items and the app will automatically open whenever you login to your Mac.
Apps Not on Dock
- If the app you want to add into login item is not available on dock then launch “Finder” app.
- Navigate to “Applications” folder and locate the app.
- Drag and move the app on the dock area.
- Once the app is on dock, right click and enable “Open at Login” option as explained above.

Remember, you can only add an app on the left side of the dock separation. When you move the app on left area of the dock, you will see other apps will give space and allow the app to add on dock. You can also add apps to login items from system preferences section.

- Click on the lockpad to lock the screen and save your changes.

Delete Apps from Startup Login
The login items will affect the loading speed of your Mac when booting. If you have many apps in the login list then your Mac may take long time for startup. When you feel slowness, check the list of login items and delete unnecessary apps to speed up your Mac.

- When you are at “Users & Groups” preferences section, select your user account and go to “Login Items” tab.

- If you only don’t want to see the application windows after login then simply check the “Hide” checkbox against the item. Remember, this option is useful when you try to run scripts after login. You can hide the script screen but continue to run the app at the background after login.
- Select the app and check the + / – buttons are enabled. If not, click on the lockpad and provide you admin details to unlock the screen.
- Now, select the apps you want to remove from the login item list and click on – icon to remove them.
- Click the lockpad icon again to lock and save your changes.
- Now restart you Mac and check whether it can boot up faster than before.
